Singapore, 30 December 2008 – MTA2009, scheduled to be held from 25 – 28 March 2009 at the Singapore Expo is cancelled. The prevailing economic climate has had a significant effect on the precision engineering and machine tools industry. This industry forms the bedrock of all manufacturing activities, and lacklustre demand in vertical sectors such as aerospace, automotive and electronics has dampened the outlook of players in the market. This has led to poor response from exhibitors, including the non-participation of several market leaders which have been strong supporters of the show in the past.

The over-cautious sentiments of most segments of the industry, along with the absence of perennial exhibitors, greatly diminish MTA’s effectiveness as a regional business networking event. In view of the circumstances, the decision to cancel MTA2009 was made promptly to allow exhibitors, visitors and partners sufficient time to react and make the necessary arrangements.

Currently, no date has been set for the return of MTA. The organiser will continue to engage the industry to ascertain this and is confident that MTA will return in good shape and continue to support the precision engineering and machine tools sectors as the premier business networking and choice sourcing platform in Southeast Asia.
